I'm searching for that little light... in my inner world and in the outer world. There's just so much darkness and so little light.

Brilliant essay! From the page:
I survive the degradation that has become America--a land that exalts itself as a bastion of freedom and liberty while it tortures human beings, stripped of their rights, in offshore penal colonies, a land that wages wars defined under international law as criminal wars of aggression, a land that turns its back on its poor, its weak, its mentally ill, in a relentless drive to embrace totalitarian capitalism--because I read books. I have 5,000 of them. They line every wall of my house. And I do not own a television.

From the page:
If Bush can immunize himself for his own crimes after he's committed them, then he can, likewise, prosecute you for breaking laws for which he has yet to issue a decree! There is a word for this: tyranny! The people of England beheaded a King for less egregious offenses. This outcome has flowed from a single spring: GOP psychopathy!
Bush has effectively repealed the Bill of Rights while immunizing himself after the fact from prosecution for laws he's already broken, specifically, federal statutes prescribing the death penalty for war crimes resulting in death. These crimes should be listed at the top of the indictment against Bush.

From the page:
What happens if there's a class war and only one side bothers to show up and fight it? That's what happened over the last thirty years. There was a class war, and the rich won. Period. It's over, they kicked our knees out from under us, put on their steel toed boots and spent the last thirty years telling us that they were going to trickle on us and we're going to like it and beg for more.

Sneak attack on Internet freedom of speech

From the page:
In the Chinese classic The Thirty-Six Stratagems, the eighth strategy reads, "Openly repair the gallery roads, but sneak through the passage of Chencang." That is to say, set a decoy by appearing to attack along an obvious path while sneaking up on the enemy from a less obvious route. While many pay close attention to the obvious and steady decline of American democracy into corporate fascism, more subtle and devious tactics go virtually unnoticed.
A little-known, yet terrifying, court case threatens to pave the way to a strangling of the freedom of dissent we still have. It has the potential to set a dangerous precedent for Internet free speech, without a single high-profile law being passed in Congress and without a single word of debate, either congressional or in public.

A story about a man wanting to divorce his wife because he has an affair. Upon hearing that, she requests that he carries her from the bedroom to the door every morning for a month before accepting the divorce. And after one month, he realizes he doesn't want the divorce anymore. A very moving story.
